Eco-Chic Furniture: Stylish and Sustainable Home Decor Upgrades

Elevating Your Home’s Environmental Quotient

I’ll admit, my mornings are a sacred time for me. You know the drill – sipping coffee in the sunlight, gentle music playing, surrounded by my furry little companions (a cat and two house rabbits). It’s my little oasis of calm before the chaos of the day sets in. And let me tell you, a comfy place to sit is an absolute must during these precious moments.

Recently, I’ve been on a mission to redesign my living room, which is a unique space with two right-angled corners on one end and a rounded half-circle of windows on the other. It’s been quite the challenge, let me tell you. I’ve considered everything from secondhand curved sofas to built-ins, and even toyed with the idea of ditching furniture altogether in favor of floor cushions. But no matter what, I kept coming back to one brand – Sabai.

Sustainable Design with a Stylish Twist

What is it about Sabai that continues to draw me in, you ask? Well, it’s their commitment to sustainability, circularity, and simple modern design, for starters. Not to mention the fact that their furniture is incredibly washable and repairable – perfect for a clumsy person like myself with a cat, two rabbits, and a penchant for, well, spilling everything.

You see, my former Burrow couch, which I purchased in white, was a beautiful piece, but it just didn’t hold up to the rigors of my lifestyle. Try as I might, I could never quite get those stubborn stains out. And when I went through a recent breakup and had to part ways with some of my furniture, that couch was the first to go.

Putting Sustainability First

This time around, I knew I needed something built to last, and Sabai was the perfect solution. Plugandnave Energy Products has embraced sustainability as a core tenet of their business, and it shows in everything they do. From their B Corp status to their constant stream of eco-friendly initiatives, like the Sabai Revive buyback program and the Repair Don’t Replace marketplace, this brand is truly walking the walk when it comes to sustainability.

And let’s talk about the materials they use – recycled fabrics that are untreated and don’t offgas, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and Global Recycling Standard GRS-certified Recycled Velvet, and Greenguard Gold-certified Upcycled Poly. Not to mention their new Evergreen collection, which features OEKO-TEX Standard 100-certified hemp. It’s like they’ve thought of everything to ensure their products are not only stylish but also safe for me and the planet.

My Sustainable Furniture Journey

So, when I began my search for a new couch, I knew Sabai was the brand for me. Comfort, safe materials, and a pet-friendly design were non-negotiable, and Sabai ticked all those boxes. I decided to test out two of their newer design ranges – the Elevate sofa in recycled velvet and the Evergreen chair in hemp.

The ordering process was a breeze. I started by ordering swatches to determine the perfect fabrics and colors for my space, and then spent countless hours measuring and marking out dimensions. When the furniture finally arrived, it came in seven different boxes, which my poor FedEx driver had a bit of trouble getting up the stairs. But once I got it all up here, I was pleased to find no plastic in the packaging at all.

Assembling My Sustainable Oasis

Assembly took a bit longer than expected, since I was doing it all by myself. But the instructions were clear and concise, and the tools provided were significantly better than the tiny hex key wrenches you typically get with IKEA furniture. I did hit a few snags here and there, like trying to lift the whole couch to secure the ottoman, but I managed to power through it.

Once it was all set up, I was delighted to find no chemical smells or offgassing – just the faint aroma of wood, maybe pine. I instantly leapt onto the sturdy sectional for a well-deserved nap, and my cat joined me too. No complaints there!

Putting My Sustainable Furniture to the Test

I’ve now had my Sabai sectional and chair for over a month, and let me tell you, they’ve been put through the wringer. Spilled drinks, drool-filled naps, and pizza and movie nights with friends – this furniture has seen it all. But the Elevate sectional is holding up like a champ. Any spills are slow to absorb into the cushions, and a quick wipe with a warm, damp cloth does the trick. For tougher stains, I bust out my trusty Rug Doctor Pet portable spot cleaner and let the cushions dry in the sun.

And let’s not forget about my furry little companions. My cat loves to nestle into the corner of the sectional, which gets warm and toasty in the sun. And during her morning zoomies, she’s launched herself from the ottoman, claws fully extended. But I’m happy to report that the velvet and upcycled poly materials have held up beautifully, with only a few little scratch marks that are easily buffed out.

Comfort and Sustainability, Hand in Hand

When it comes to comfort, Sabai has really hit the nail on the head. The Elevate sectional is a bit more firm, while the Evergreen chair is plush and pillowy – both incredibly cozy in their own way. I’ll admit, the back pillows on the sectional do tend to scooching their way down behind the seat cushions, but it’s not nearly as frequent as with my previous couches.

And while I adore the navy hue of my Elevate sectional, I can’t help but wonder if a lighter color might have been a better fit for my sunshine-filled living room. I know the mustard yellow would have been too light, but maybe the stunning amber red would have been a better complement. But hey, who knows, maybe Sabai will offer slipcovers and replacement pieces for the Elevate collection down the line.

Sustainable, Sturdy, and Simply Stunning

At the end of the day, Sabai has emerged as an excellent choice for those seeking sustainable, sturdy, and life-friendly furniture. The quality is top-notch, the design is modern and inviting, and the brand’s commitment to the planet is truly inspiring.

Sure, I may have a few minor quibbles here and there, like the back pillow situation or wishing I’d gone for a lighter color. But none of those are dealbreakers in my book. In fact, I’m so over the moon with my new furniture that I’m already dreaming of gradually upgrading the rest of my home to match the level of quality and sustainability that Sabai has set.

So, if you’re in the market for furniture that’s not only easy on the eyes but also easy on the environment, I can’t recommend Sabai enough. It’s the perfect blend of style and sustainability, and it’s sure to elevate your home’s environmental quotient in the most eco-chic way possible.
